Community Networking Steering Committee Meeting
November 13, 2002 Minutes 

 

In attendance:  Sherry Lambert, Coordinator, Victor Paz, Ruben Castaneda, Carol Brey, Jackie Dean, Richard Bulller, Ann Savino, Irene Newlon, Patsy Launspach, Jeffrey Brown, Emilio Saenz, Ron Graham, Ricardo Chavarria, Terry Craig, Manuela Gandara, Mary Duffy, Bobbi Sago, Kathleen Muro

1.  The committee reviewed the Framing document of the September 26, 2002 community committee meeting and the chairs of the various target areas discussed their sessions. Sign-in sheets were shared for those who wish to make contact with some of the persons that were in attendance.

2.  Sherry Lambert gave an update on the grant implementation and shared emails and spreadsheets for the sites surveys, DSL lines, Electrical Upgrades, and the other budget expenditures. The trainers asked for the key to the Microsoft Office XP software program. Patsy Launspach was going to check on it.

3.  Persons to receive equipment at the sites were discussed and each organization gave a place and names to deliver it to.

4.  Irene Newlon gave a report on the curriculum she is writing for the training at the sites. She also presented the design for the curriculum guides. Ann Savino discussed the targeted subjects for the training for the literacy and workforce areas.

5.  The lead trainers presented the mentor selection process, interviews, training ideas and dates, and marketing strategies. There was a concern that since the mentors are being hired as contractors and will receive an IRS form from the district, it could affect their status for low income housing. Housing was going to check into it. YISD would do the criminal background checks on the mentors who the trainers wish to hire.

6.  There was much discussion about the length of time that it is taking for the data gathering software bid to move forward. Patsy Launspach said she would check with Sharon Foster’s office to see the status of this bid.

7.  The committee unanimously voted to hire Victor Paz as the Data Collection Manager.

8.  Due to an accident on the freeway, Bobbi Sago was not in attendance when Ann Savino gave her report about developing the CN2 web page. She and Ann will meet at a later date to discuss the information from the framing session.

9.  The next meeting date is December 16, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the Housing Authority of El Paso Adm. Bldg.

10.  The trainers met after the meeting to get their software from Sherry Lambert and to discuss a change in a scheduled meeting date.
